I’m in Tulsa, OK, and I teach computer classes to retirees. I do this on a volunteer basis through RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) of Tulsa.
I started finding out about computers when I bought my first one in 1991. I taught myself using what I’ve referred to as the “Oh *%&!!#” method – that’s when you try to do something and wind up saying Oh *%&!!# – that wasn’t what I meant to do! Eventually things started falling in place and making sense, and I found I was able to make some logical connection to what was happening.
Eventually I was chosen to be the in-house trainer for my company when it switched the office over to using PC’s from the former dumb terminals we’d had. I thoroughly enjoyed this, and so it was a natural that after I retired I joined RSVP and got into the program they had started for teaching computer skills to other retirees.
I’ve continued to learn and expand what I know about computers and am still fascinated by the way they work.
